So we obviously skipped a week. It was in preparation for the Halloween specials. Now, the format remains the same but choosing was a difficult task until we went with the obvious one.
Halloween is coming up and what better way to celebrate than with the very amazing drama, The Master's Sun?
The Master's Sun is a 2013 one-of-a-kind Korean drama that somehow found a way to bring comedy, romance, and horror all into one very amazing package. I found this drama in the winter of 2014 when my friend recommended it to me. I was blown away.
Summary:
Tae Gong Shil is just an average, ordinary girl...who has the power to see ghosts ever since a car accident years ago. Even when she's intoxicated or unconscious, the spirits will possess her. Even in the extended stay inn, the ghosts haunt her with every chance they get. The only friends she has are the children in the inn and She spends waking and non-waking moments alike fending these creepy and sometimes scary spirits out of her life with little to no success. That is, until she meets Joo Joong Won, the wealthy and power hungry skeptic, also known as the CEO of Kingdom Mall. After a chance encounter on a rainy day, Joong Won witnesses her talking with someone who was not there. Thinking she is crazy, he turns to walk away but when she grabs his arm, the ghost suddenly disappears.
Just when Joong Won thought their time together was over, Gong Shil makes another appearance in his life as a new janitor (more or less) at Kingdom Mall. More recently, the mall has been having a ghost problem and Joong Won, being skeptical of Gong Shil's abilities, calls her in to be the mall's "Gost Radar" to prove her worth to the company in exchange for him being there when she needs ghosts to disappear.

Reasons to Watch:
- The Plot
Honestly, this is probably the most unique drama I've ever seen. Question: How many dramas can successfully combine horror, romance, and comedy? Answer: Not many. This starts with Gong Hyo Jin (from It's Okay, That's Love and Producers) portraying this easily scared and visibly sleep deprived young woman named Tae Gong Shil. She goes through significantly more struggles in life than the average 20-something-year-old. First of all, she sees ghosts. Creepy, deformed ghosts that keep her up all night. Next, she's in a sort-of love triangle between the sweet and trustworthy Kang Woo and the cynical Joong Won. The picture to the side definitely captures the plot. So Ji Sub's character, Joong Won is very cold and distant, especially about his dark past with a girl named Cha Hee Joo. It's very obvious that the two have a connection, despite what his family wants to hear. Soon after the two become more comfortable with each other, Gong Shil clings to him for his security and Joong Won wants her there not only for her "Ghost Radar" but for what he secretly craves: her company and to not be alone. It's very hard to quit watching.
- The Horror
BOO! Did I scare you? No?...Okay...
Many that know me will know that I'm not a fan of horror. Not even a little. But even with its very horror-based plot, The Master's Sun is very enjoyable. A few jump scares here and there and a couple of moments where I had to pause the show and run to the nearest light source because I'm a scaredy cat. The ghosts awe very, well, gruesome I guess you could say. They're deformed for the most part and kind of interesting to look at after a while. Even though they're kind of creepy when they jump out at you like in certain scenes, once their backstory is revealed, the spookiness goes away and sympathy for their character is felt. They may not be pleasant to look at, but ghosts have feelings too, says Patrick Swayze.

- The Romance
Now here's an interesting romance. Along with the progression of the plot, the romance progresses. Of course, since Tae Gong Shil is as afraid of the ghosts as I am during actually scary horror movies, that gives her a very valid excuse to cling to Joong Win, who couldn't be less phased.
As Joong Won slowly begins to recognize her as a potential girlfriend, something is brewing in the relationship department for Kang Woo and Tae Yi Ryung while Kang Woo slowly gets over his obvious affection for Gong Shil.

- The Music
With a beautiful soundtrack featuring Hong Dae Kwang and Sistar's Hyorin, the songs really add to the feels of the show itself. Even the opening sequence has a few string instruments plucking and a slow kind of organy-sounding instrument. The gentle voice of Hong Dae Kwang, the romantic scenes are filled in with a sound that makes you smile as well as the sadness in the Yoon Mi Rae song, Touch Love. It's just so much...the feels...
Overall, I really enjoyed this drama. You probably would too.
